What are the requirements for lawn lights for ETL certification?
Jan 31, 2024
ETL Listed is one of the widely accepted product safety certification marks in North America, provided by Intertek. For lawn lamps, obtaining ETL certification means that the product must meet the safety requirements of relevant standards in the United States and Canada. Specifically for lawn lights, the standards they need to meet may include but are not limited to:
1. UL 1598: This is a general requirement for fixed lighting fixtures. As a type of outdoor lighting fixture, lawn lamps must comply with this standard to ensure that they meet safety standards in terms of design, structure, materials, and fire performance.
2. UL 8750 or UL 60950: These standards are specifically designed for LED lighting equipment or luminaires containing electrical control components. They specify specific requirements for LED lighting fixtures in terms of electrical safety, heat resistance, power cord, and grounding continuity.
Although ETL certification does not test electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), in practical applications, lawn lights may still need to comply with relevant EMC standards to ensure that they do not cause electromagnetic interference to the surrounding environment, especially in specific occasions or when exported to markets such as the European Union.
In addition, as an outdoor product, lawn lamps may also need to meet relevant requirements such as waterproof and dustproof level (such as IP level), mechanical strength, weather resistance, etc.
Therefore, in order to obtain ETL certification for lawn lamps, manufacturers need to ensure that their products have undergone rigorous testing and meet the relevant standards mentioned or not mentioned above, ensuring the safety and compliance of the products.
